Potlatch
The Mission
In the Pacific Northwest, Potlatch is a social event or celebration. It was an important social event among Northwest tribes that marked the status of an individual or celebrated a special occasion. Food and entertainment were provided, and gifts were given to guests who attended.
The annual Potlatch has been the premier event of the Washington State Society for over 50 years. Potlatch features homegrown seafood, vegetables, candies, beer and wine through a reception and sit down dinner.
The Challenge
Redesign the previous logo which was pixel art and an image of a whale. Have the new logo be representative of the old but give off a more clean and professional look to the gala.
The Solution
Since the Potlatch event is hosted by the Washington State Society, I knew I wanted to have the two revamped logos match in a very illustrative way. By spending time researching Native American artistic styles I was inspired by the event’s roots to create a clean logo with an expressive whale. The whale can also be used alone as a mark throughout the event.
The Process
Through research about the events’ history, the Washington State Society, and Native American modern art I was able to put together a clean logo to represent the gala.
